SERVICES
Phase I Desk Studies
Our Desk Study (Phase 1) has been designed to meet the planning conditions of Local Authorities. It offers an easy to understand summary alongside the necessary detailed information and interpretation that the Local Authority requires.
Site Investigation Services
In order to truly understand a site we need to explore beneath the surface. We thoroughly investigate the geology of a site by in-situ testing; harvesting samples for laboratory analysis; and installing monitoring equipment. From this evidence we are able to draw conclusions and make clear recommendations. We don’t sit on the fence.
We can target investigations to consider specific risks such as mining risk or contaminated land issues, or provide a comprehensive geo-environmental investigation.
Our site investigations can be provided on a fixed price basis.
Remediation Design & Supervision
Our team has experience of working both for and with remediation, earthworks and groundworks contractors. Using our breadth of experience we can develop Remediation Strategies, Remedial Option Appraisals and Remediation Method Statements for our clients that are feasible, pragmatic, cost effective and will gain the approval of Regulators.
Our service extends to on-site support to Contractors along with supervision of remediation works and provision of independent verification.
Where a remediation requires on-going verification into the construction phase we offer soil cover and gas measures verification in a flexible and proactive manner ensuring that plots are completed without delay.
Ground Gas & Geotechnical Monitoring Services
High quality monitoring allows detailed risk assessments to be undertaken in order to design economical remedial measures. We have wide experience of monitoring ground gases such as methane and carbon dioxide or volatile compounds.
We can design and install geotechnical monitoring instrumentation to assess groundwater and piezometric levels, slope movements and settlement.
Contaminated Land Assessment
We have vast experience of working with Developers and Regulators to deliver robust investigations and assessment leading to pragmatic and cost effective remediation solutions. Many potential development sites in the UK are brownfield, having a history that may have caused contamination of the ground and groundwater. There may be a necessity to investigate, risk assess and clean-up (remediate) the site to protect the environment or future end-users.
Calabrian’s contaminated land assessment provides a multi-layered approach considering geology, hydrogeology, hydrology and toxicology. We ensure that we create a bespoke solution that reflects the requirements of the site, the Regulator and the Client.
Geotechnical Assessment
Calabrian has a strong background in geotechnical engineering and geotechnics; ranging from simple shallow foundation design through to detailed slope stability assessments. We use our extensive experience along with state of the art modeling packages to undertake slope stability, retaining wall and settlement assessments.

Coal Mining Risk Assessment
The Coal Authority is a statutory consultee for any planning application within a High Risk Area which include areas of known or suspected shallow coal mining, recorded mine entries (shafts and adits) and areas of former opencast.
We offer a Coal Mining Risk Assessments that include Coal Authority Mining Reports, mine abandonment plans, a review of geological maps, technical reports and nearby borehole records along with our detailed interpretation and assessment of potential geohazards.
We can call upon our detailed knowledge and experience to design targeted site investigations at known or suspected shallow mining hazards leading to design, supervision and verification of stabilisation works.
